What does my child need to bring to camp?

Packed lunch – We do not have refrigeration facilities at camp; foods that do not require refrigeration include fruits, vegetables, hard cheese, crisps, bread, crackers and jam. We suggest packing frozen gel, ice packs or frozen juice in with the lunch. Children are allowed to bring £1.00 maximum to the camp so that they can purchase extra drinks, crisps and chocolate bars at the tuck shop after lunch.

Snacks – Generally the children are kept busy throughout the morning and afternoon  period and will only stop for short breaks where water or orange juice will be provided to keep up their fluid intake. Food is consumed during the lunch time period 12.00 noon to 12.30pm.

Plenty of non-fizzy drinks – Most children find screw top drinks are best.

All children should bring into camp all items as listed on your confirmation sheet so that they are prepared for all climatic conditions. All kit should be taken to the changing rooms and deposited in a locker of your child’s choice which includes their packed lunch. Bicycles may be brought to camp and left outside the school pavilion and may only be used at lunch break on the main field. Helmets must be worn. At the end of the day we are happy to look after bicycles and they are left at the owners own risk locked away in our school hall. We are not insured against theft of your personal possessions.

Sun cream/lotion – In the hotter months, sun protection is essential and a sun hat or cap is recommended. Please show your child how to apply their lotion as 3pks staff are not permitted to administer sun tan lotion with written parental consent.

Anything that they shouldn’t bring?

Your child will participate in a structured day of activities with all equipment provided. It is not necessary for your child to bring in games or toys. 3pks cannot accept responsibility for property left at camp, however we will endeavour to return any items of lost property to the rightful owner. If items are labelled this makes the task easier to achieve. Items of lost property will be kept for a period of 2 weeks after camp. Any unclaimed items will be donated to a charity or disposed of accordingly.

Can you tell me what activities my child will be participating in?

A timetable of activities will be made available to all parents, which will be located on the booking in desk each morning. The timetable may change at short notice for a variety of reasons, however we endeavour to stick to the original programme of activities listed.

Can my child be in the same group as their friend or sibling?

We place children in age specific groups to ensure that the activities children participate in are appropriate and fun for them. In some cases we merge age groups together and we do try hard to ensure that children are placed with friends or siblings if requested by the child or the parent. No guarantees can be made as numbers on camp will dictate how many children may be in one group or another.

What if my child does not like an activity?

If your child does not enjoy a particular activity, we will not insist that they take part, but will encourage them to participate at a level that they feel comfortable with. Often, support from our coaches and the option to take things at their own pace gives children the confidence to join in. (Challenge by Choice)

Who is in charge?

All 3pks camps are led by a qualified Camp Leader who will have a great deal of experience of working with children, either on our Camps or through previous experience. The 3pks Manager, whose full time responsibility is to ensure that all camps run smoothly, will be on-site to oversee all groups along with the Managing Director who maintains overall responsibility for all camps. If your child is not entirely happy at Camp, please speak to our Camp Leader immediately, who will make every effort to rectify the situation. If the situation is not resolved to your complete satisfaction please call 07003932610 and we will do everything we can to help you.

Who else will be looking after my child?

We know that having a great team goes a long way towards ensuring your child has a fantastic day at Camp. The most important thing to us when selecting a new team member is that they are enthusiastic, enjoy caring for children, and have a genuine desire to make sure every child is happy and having fun. Every team member goes through our own site specific training programme. The majority of our Leaders are full time teachers or students who have been employed by us as Assistant instructors on past camps. Our Assistant instructors are mainly ex-pupils from Barfield school who are well known to us. These individuals usually then go on to become Outdoor Pursuits instructors for 3pks.

What if my child has an accident or is unwell at Camp?

At the time of booking, you provided medical information, including your own contact details. In the event of a minor accident, we have qualified first aid trained staff available to deal with any problems that may arise. An accident form will be completed by the group leader and you will be asked to sign the form to confirm that you have been made aware of the accident and action taken by the staff when you collect your child at the end of the day. In the unlikely event of a more serious accident, you will be contacted immediately.

My child is on medication, who should I tell?

If your child has a long-term medical condition e.g. asthma, we should be informed of this at the time of booking. Please label the medication and hand this to the Camp Leader on your first day. You will then be asked to sign a Medication Form.
