Barfield School has now established a completely unique experience for Under 17s. It has set up its own Off-Road 4 x 4 Driving School and is encouraging children aged between 10 and 17, who are keen to learn the basic skills of driving to contact the school and enrol on courses, which run throughout the year.
The course consists of an introduction to the vehicles and a comprehensive safety briefing. The children are then ready to learn the fine art of vehicle control under the guidance of qualified instructors, where they will learn the basic skills of steering, clutch control and gear changing, prior to moving onto the purpose-built challenge course. The children try out and develop these new skills, with an instructor sat next to them, giving them guidance and encouragement.
All participants are guaranteed an adventurous and unforgettable driving experience, building confidence and self-esteem as they explore the ability of the vehicles under their control.
During the course, the children are shown basic vehicle maintenance procedures, learn how to change wheels and check fluid levels, as well as understanding vehicle recovery. No prior experience is required as full instruction is given on the day.
